DAOYIN TRAINING
INSTRUCTOR QUALIFICATIONS
There are three levels of instructor qualified by the Scotland & Wales Daoyin Yangsheng Gong Association.
Level 1 — Basic (suitable for part-time instructors)
Level 2 — Advanced (suitable for professional or semi-professional instructors)
Level 3 — Therapeutic (suitable for therapists)
Each teacher will be qualified and registered for each routine and will be required to re-certify every two years.
Each level of teacher will need general and specific knowledge as well as the physical skills. General knowledge only needs to be assessed once per level but specific knowledge and physical skills will need to be assessed for each different routine.
REQUIREMENTS FOR QUALIFICATION
As well as the general Daoyin knowledge requirements for each level all routines have 3 standand requirements:
- Theoretical knowledge of routine
- Practical skills pertaining to routine
- Permission from individual school to teach
Level 1: Instructor (Basics)
General Knowledge
All Level 1 teachers must have passed the Basic Daoyin Theory (1) course which consists of being able to answer questions such as:
- What is: 1. Qigong; 2. Daoyin; 3. Yangsheng; 4. Daoyin Yangsheng Gong?
- What is the difference between an ordinary physical exercise and a qigong exercise?
- What are the 'Three Treasures' (san bao)?
- What are the 'Three Regulations' (san tiao)?
- What is the relationship between san bao and san tiao?
Specific Knowledge
All Level 1 teachers must have the following specific knowledge:
- Know the overall purpose of the routine
- Name the routine and each movement in the routine in own language
- Know the primary mental focus points of each movement
- Know the safe working practices - physical
Physical Skills
All Level 1 teachers should be able to display the following physical skills:
- Be able to perform the routine in a competent manner
- Completed required number of tuition hours per routine
Level 2: Instructor (Advanced)
General Knowledge
All Level 2 teachers must have passed the Basic Daoyin Theory (2) course which consists of:
- Overview of anatomy and physiology (eastern and western)
- Basic knowledge of the Meridian (jingluo) System
Specific Knowledge
All Level 2 teachers must have the following specific knowledge:
- Know the purpose of each movement in the routine
- Name the routine and each movement in it - in Chinese
- Know the secondary mental focus points of each movement
- Know the safe working practices - energetic
- Know the specific theory (i.e. anatomy and physiology) relevant to the routine
Physical Skills
All Level 2 teachers should be able to display the following physical skills:
- Be able to perform the routine in a proficient manner
- Completed required number of tuition hours per routine
- Be competent with:
At least five different organ routines, plus
Daoyin Baojian Gong
Yin Ti Ling Rou Shi San Shi (Flexibility Exercise in Thirteen Postures) 1 & 2
Level 3: Instructor (Therapeutic)
General Knowledge
All Level 3 teachers must have passed the Basic Daoyin Theory (3) course which consists of:
- Five Element (wuxing) Theory
- Basic diagnostic skills
- Psychologic aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Specific Knowledge
All Level 3 teachers must have the following specific knowledge:
- Know the therapeutic uses of individual exercises - how and why each movement functions
- Know the primary, secondary and tertiary effects of each exercise
- How to modify each movement to meet the therapeutic requirements of an individual
- Safe working practices - individual requirements
- Know the therapeutic theory relevant to the routine
Physical Skills
All Level 3 teachers should be able to display the following physical skills:
- Be able to perform the routine in a accomplished manner
- Completed required number of tuition hours per routine
- Be competent with:
At least ten different organ routines, plus
Daoyin Baojian Gong
Shujin Zhuanggu Gong
Ningshen Lianyi Tiaoxin Gong
Daoqi Linghe Tiaoxi Gong
Yangxue Buqi Yishou Gong (Primary Five Minute Exercise)
